It is a certain sign that spring has arrived when the forsythia shrubs are adorned with golden yellow blooms. Here is a hardy, rapid growing, upright growing shrub which reaches 3-8 ft. tall with a 3-8 ft spread. If you want to prune it do it right after flowering as it will bloom again the next year on existing stems. It lives a great live in average, well-drained soil and excels in blooming in full sun.
A dense, small (dwarf) shrub with bottle-brush fragrant flowers. Ready to share their splendor they bloom before the leaves appear. Your plants will reach 3-4 ft tall. The summer's foliage provides a great fall palette of yellow, orange and red.
Large, violet blue flowers with white centers from early summer through frost. This is a long blooming perennial geramium! Slightly marbled, deep green foliage forms spreading mounds. Full sun for morning and a little protection in the afternoon are in order although this perennial is exceptionally tolerant of heat. You can re-shape and rejuvenate it by clipping areas where flowering has ceased. Take off side stems to prevent spreading.
This Geum creates flowers that are up to 50% larger than other varieties. The fully double, scarlet-red flowers are produced over a long period beginning in late spring.
Grows 50-80 ft tall x 30-40 ft spread. Unusual two-lobed foliage will remind you of open fans. Unlike many trees this one comes as either a female or male. In the fall the leaves turn yellow on this slow grower. Some folks will refer to this as a maidenhair tree.
A great ornamental grass for a great shape and a lot of flowers! Dark green leaves with a narrow, white midrib. Feathery cream plumes cover the top 2/3 of the plant.

An improved 'Hameln ' grass. The leaves are narrow and green that form an upright vase-shaped clump. The bottle brush plumes emerge in August and start out a smoky purple then turn to tan. This grass is a show-stopper!
This perennial grass presents upright, arching stalks with feathery, fine-textured bronze-red flower heads. Late September finds them turning to fluffy cream. Leaves have a silver midrib. Works well with others as a cut flower. Can tolerate moisture. Grows 5-6 ft tall.
A fine textured ornamental grass forming upright mounding clumps. Fountain grass grows 2 ft tall, and blooms in the fall. Blooms look like little fox tails. Works well as a cut flower but foliage stays great looking through the winter and you can divide it in the spring.
'Indian Warrior' forms a very upright vase of green foliage that takes on first purples then bronzes as summer turns to autumn. It makes a terrific and colorful alternative to the larger Miscanthus. Big bluestem is a tall, native grass that used to be the dominant grass of the tall grass prairies of North America. It's also called turkey foot because the flowers resemble...well...a turkey's foot.
This is a reed grass which produces showy, feathery plumes bearing striking, erect, wheat-colored seed heads. It's vertical presence is magnificent, reaching 4-5 ft tall; it only gets a spread of 2 feet! Works well as alone a cut flower or mix it up for a natural bouquet.
A similar variety of Karl Foerster grass that will grow in shade! It has bright green, erect leaves and grows about 3-4 ft tall when in bloom. The flower plumes emerge pinkish then turn to cream in the fall.
A truly miniature fountain grass, 'Little Bunny' stands only 18" tall when in bloom. Cute cream-colored, tufted seed heads look like a bunch of little bunnies' tails dancing above the dense clump of dark green foliage. The blooms begin to appear in midsummer.
This ornamental grass has a fine blade with highlights of creamy white vertical varegation. Grows 4-5 ft tall, blooms in the fall. It will add visual interest in your outdoor settings but it also works well as a cut flower so take some indoors!
A grass that is similar to 'Karl Foerster', but the foliage is variegated with creamy white vertical stripes and the plants are slightly smaller. The variegation is best with cool summer nights and low humidity. This grass has a 2 ft spread.

A graceful, shade-loving evergreen tree with good green foliage. It prefers protection from strong winds. This allows it to grow up to 80 ft tall at maturity - and it grows fast! The slightly drooping branches contribute to its genteel appearance.
